Save-safe order

  1. Compare the in-game build on every device.
  2. Enable crossplay and complete the Microsoft/Xbox account link.
  3. Verify the expected gamertag appears on the main menu.
  4. Create a fresh host session and invite one player at a time.
  5. Record the exact platform pair and join error.

Four independent checks

Platform online access, Microsoft/Xbox identity, version parity, and host-session visibility are separate. Passing one does not prove the others.

  • PS5: online access plus linked Microsoft/Xbox identity
  • Xbox: signed-in identity and current build
  • Steam: Steam plus the game's account-link flow
  • Xbox PC: Xbox app identity and Gaming Services

Hotfix mismatch

One store can receive a build at a different time. Compare the number shown inside the game rather than assuming every device is current because no download is pending.
